Abbie Barrett

Abbie Barrett, Boston Music Award Winner for Songwriter in 2015,  fronts her band featuring Ed Valauskas (bass), Jack Hamilton (keys), Josh Kiggans (drums), and Mike Oram (guitar).

Paul Robicheau of The Improper wrote that their album, That Shame, showcases her in full rock mode, sometimes evoking the tone and phrasing of the Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde…[Her] craftsmanship extends from the gorgeous vocals of “As I Wanted You” and the soaring crescendos of “Falling” to the catchy ’80s-flavored punch of “Take It in Stride.”

Some of their songs showcase the sensibility and intimacy often associated with folk. Some have a rough and rowdy garage rock vibe. Still others have a country twang.

Johnston native Steve DelMonico serves as the nucleus of the group’s songwriting and provides vocals and guitar. Joining him are lead guitarist Steve Donovan, bassist Amato Zinno and drummer Nick Iddon.

They’ve risen to be one of the top live acts in the city’s music scene and are continuously branching out to other areas of New England.
